Time Change!

16 04 2008

Dear Friends,

For the past few months I have noticed a slow decline in attendance, I don’t know weather it is because of the nature of everything in life or just plain nature (weather, time, work, other priorities etc)

I decided to stop having a set time for our walks and going back to basics, when we first started Six-K we used to send out an email and give a 1 or 2 day notice on when/where! It was exciting, it was spontaneous and people seriously loved it, also it gave me the ability to interact more with the members.

I hope this decision does not turn people off, but Calvin and I have been speaking about this issue for quiet some time and we both feel that with everything that we have endured this must be one of the biggest decisions we have taken thus far, nevertheless our hopes in “going back to basics” as I have dubbed it earlier in my message is our true hope to achieving bigger successes and making peoples dreams only come closer to being true.

With much love, respect, support, and admiration

I will be “randomly” emailing you soon!

Kuwait Here I Come …

7 04 2008

Friends,

How are you all? I hope everything is well over there. I am in Phoenix Airport right now on my way back to Kuwait, the weather is gorgeous here but I hear that Kuwait is a bit on the warmer end of the spectrum for the past couple of days. I have taken full advantage of my “vacation” and it has reflected in kilos gained from this trip, but as always they will be off in a week or two.

I hope you are all ready for a great summer and fun times with Six-K, I have noticed that lately the numbers of attendence has dramatically dropped. I couldn’t tell you weather the drop is attributed to the hour or day of the scheduled walk but neverthless you should all know that whatever we need to do on our side to get more people to join us, we will definatly oblige. I hope you all atleast come and say Hi the next time we do meet, i miss you all and i look forward to inpisring myself and thousands of others with you.

Love,

Jasem

Today is the first time i try spinning class. Elliot’s mom is an aerobics instructor here in Arizona and i went to her gym to try it out. They turn off the lights and play loud music, it’s really great ! if your gym provides a spinning class i highly recommend it.

I’ll be back soon, miss you all !

Carpe Diem: Clarification

4 03 2008

A very close friend of mine today told me that he was very critical of the movie created by Kuwait University “carpe diem”, and that his views where shared by many of his friends. When i asked why? he said that it basically showed who Jasem was and his accomplishments and not shown the accomplishments of the club and it’s members. Before i got the chance to explain myself, he had to go.

This is my explanation:

I was approached by a group of students at Kuwait University who wanted to basically create a mini film and they needed it to be based on a character, and they chose me. When i sat with them they had told me that it needed to be emotional and basically i needed to act, hence the way i was talking is VERY unlike how i talk normally. What i said was 100% true, how i said wasn’t, i wanted to be very close to the viewer, hence making it more emotional. I agreed to participate in the project and i really think they did a great effort and a wonderful job. But, I will say this and i know i have said it before, without each member there would not be a club called The Six-K Club and no one would know who Jasem is or was. I really could give a damn if i was the “founder” or “creator” or whatever you want to call me. All i intended for this club is to get people off their sofas and come join me for a walk and thank god we have worked miracles & wonders. I really am proud of the group, i really believe in the club and it’s abilities to put a stamp, a positive one, on peoples lives.

This is my message to people who are critical, just for the sake of being critical:

Yes the movie did highlight my accomplishments and yes it might have taken me into the spotlight and not the club, but that’s besides the point. The club was founded after it’s founder and now it’s founder is only a member of the club and NEVER the other way around. I want you all to know that yes i am proud of what i have accomplished and i don’t like to keep it a secret because talking about it motivates me and gives me a reason not go back to my old ways. I want to thank you for all your criticism and your comments but i want you also to know that this group of people who really care about one another isn’t going anywhere, this group is not a man or a woman but a collection of all, we are the people who makes each one of us proud in his/ her own right and one day all of Kuwait will come to recognize the achievements of a few young men and women who decided to stop living in the dark and walk out to see the light.

They say every weight loss story has a start, we all got our start HERE.

21 Kilometers ! I did it.

9 02 2008

1.jpg

It was tough, i’m still sore ! but I did it, we started off walking to Marina Cresent then Khaled and I went running, we ran and ran and ran non stop till we hit KFC for a bathroom break, we left and continued running till Khaled had a problem with his calf, I continued till I hit Soug Sharq which is where I nearly collapsed so I went in to the fish market and grabbed a banana and an apple with two bottle of water, I started to walk and run, walk and run till I got to the end point! I honestly didn’t think i was going to be able to walk it let alone run it, at the end of the day i’m still a heavy guy ! but my oh my you should see the smile on my face and how proud I felt.

Next time hopefully I can run the whole thing without any walking !!
